The Way It Ends is the 3rd entry of the rapidly growing metalcore band Currents. The Newtown, Connecticut-based band truly began to find a space for themselves within the metal scene with this album, and its publication has helped catapult their status and has aided them in gaining spots in festivals and headline tours alike. Their recent feature at Download Festival 2025 was one I was lucky enough to see, which showed me the potential and the prospect of an exciting future. This album was what initially drew my attention to Currents, as its high production quality truly set it apart from their previous work.

I would like to mention a few songs that stand out on this album, one of these being Better Days. Better Days is one of the highlights on this album, and most notably their most successful song on the album, according to Spotify overall listens, attracting a large sum of over 38 million. This shows the overall progression of them as a band, being significantly higher than any song off their first two published albums. This song highlights the pure talent of Currents, combining sections of clean vocals and more subtle guitar riffs with harsher vocals and more downtuned and heavy guitar riffs. This allows for a perfect 'metalcore' combination that helps solidify their spot in this scene within the metal world. Adding to this, the heavy breakdown sections of this song show the talent of vocalist Brian Wille, who shines in this song and along with the other songs in the album.
Another song that I would like to highlight is Origin. This song is a more diverse piece in the album, being a slightly heavier song than some others. This song's heavy and deep riffs are combined with excellent drum work by Matt Young (including blast beats, which add to this further), helping to elevate this track above others. This song also further exacerbates the voice of Brian Wille, who, for many, is a key aspect of Currents' success.
The album touches on topics including rejection, regret, and sadness, and you can clearly hear this coming out in these songs. Rather than taking a more calm approach that many do when expressing these feelings, they do so in a much heavier way, allowing for a deeper connection with these emotions.
Final Thoughts and rating
My first thoughts when hearing this album were 'Wow, this is amazing'. Subsequently, this album is one that I see myself returning to more and more as time goes on. It is an extremely well-produced piece of art that helped Currents establish themselves, with their subsequent pieces of work adding to this rise in fame.
I would rather drag my balls across broken glass than listen to any of this “music”. Monsters is a solid 6 at most, the rest are -2. All the songs are the same depressing “I wanna die” & “When is this gonna end” depressing wannabe MCR emo lyrics. It aint 2009 anymore bruv, we get it, u feel hard done by in life, but have something else to sing about, every song sounds the same.
A classic example of give a monkey a typewriter and eventually it will type Shakespeare. It typed something, but sadly it was an ear piercing album that made me jealous of Helen Kellers hearing ability
True Album Score – 0.3/10
I like the way this guy rates music. I feel like he should go out and experience Sabrina Carpenter’s beautiful album, Man’s Best Friend, and let everyone know how he feels.
