Creature In The Black Night

Dayseeker brings their next album out with Creature In The Black Night, an eleven-song album that does not miss. Great to see Dayseeker keeping their sound clear, with strong vocals, heavy drums, and an electric guitar mix, all mixed with elements of EDM.

On an album with no features, I never once thought, "This song is missing another vocal layer" —probably because of Rory's versatility. The changes of pace within songs and between songs are perhaps one of the main reasons for this feeling.

Enjoyment of each song:

Pale Moonlight – 9

Creature In The Black Night – 8

Crawl Back To My Coffin – 10

Shapeshift – 10

Soulburn – 8

Bloodlust – 10

Cemetery Blues – 8

Nocturnal Remedy – 9

The Living Dead – 8

Meet The Reaper – 9

Forgotten Ghost – 8

Shapeshift is one of my favourite songs on the album, with its powerful chorus and strong breakdown; the heavy guitar tones are easily distinguished throughout. Bloodlust is also one up there with Shapeshift as my top of the album, with its slower pace beginning to transition into a heavy-hitting metal song in the end.

Dayseeker do feel like they are establishing their own pocket within metal, with more electronic elements than your "classic modern" metal artists, a pocket which feels perfect for them.

Now, as someone who likes to see a variety of artists within their given genre on an album, I don't feel I see as much as I would like in this album. But is this an issue that would make this album go from a 9 to a seven? No, of course not, just a personal preference. I mainly put this lack of variety down to the similar chord progression and structure, which sounds like your usual rock/metal song.

Final Thoughts

This Dayseeker album is impressive, with a great sound and strong vocal performance. Credit to the band for this album, I can't wait to see where Dayseeker are in the next few years.
